Most of our 12 volt heaters will also plug into your 12volt outlet but some do require a direct connection to your 12-volt dc battery.
Why do some DC heaters connect directly to the vehicle battery?
This is simply because the heater draws more power than is available through the vehicle's lighter socket outlet. Generally speaking about DC powered direct hook-up heaters, a heater that connects to the vehicle battery will draw 30Amps or more.
Why do some lighter socket heaters blow the fuse in my car?
Normally when the fuse which protects your 12V lighter socket fails (is blown) it's due to a higher than acceptable current draw caused by the load created by the DC heater. In other words, the heater draws more power than the lighter socket outlet can handle due to wiring and fuse size in the car, truck, RV or other vehicle. The solution is to upgrade the wire carrying power to the lighter socket and then replace the corresponding fuse in the fuse-block protecting the lighter socket with a size more appropriate for the wire size used.
Car Heater Blowing Cold Air?
This is normally due to the heater core in the car becoming clogged from cooling system sludge. It can also be caused by a faulty water pump or even the cooling system thermostat. Most times if your car isn't overheating you can rule out the pump and thermostat as a cause. If the problem is a clogged heater core fixing it can be quite an expense and can take a day to a week depending on the shop which you choose to do the work. A 12Volt heater is far less costly and will likely have you back on the road in just a few minutes!
