We've been RVing since the early seventies. We've made a lot of new friends along the way and try to keep in touch with most of them. A few of our oldest friends have also taken up the camping lifestyle. Now that most of us are parents we find ourselves toting along what's hopefully the next generation of RVers.Satellite TV for RV Camping

Over the span of all these years we've seen and enjoyed many new devices and amenities for us RVers and camping in general. One that I’ve always been interested in, but was never ready to make the investment, is satellite TV. We have always had a TV in the rig and normally use cable when at RV parks with cable TV hookups.

I guess it was about the mid nineties when I really noticed

RV satellite TV growing in popularity. Since then I’ve kept my eye on systems and prices, I guess just waiting for the time to be right. A few months back we decided to do it; we purchased and installed our King Dome RV satellite dish system.

Naturally I was a bit reluctant to do the installation myself, but thankfully for good friends, I had help show up on my doorstep the day of the install. Looking back, I could have done it on my own. I still really appreciate the extra hands.

We’ve logged about a month and a half on the road since then. So far there have been no problems. We picked up the in-motion satellite so the kids can watch TV while under way and they really seem to enjoy it. I remember when my wife and I started camping and friends would tag along. We’d all be playing licenses plate games, sign spotting, or taking in the scenery and chatting about it.

The kids like to take in TV. They still spend a bit of time playing games, taking in some scenery and arguing. All in all, life is good. We’re out and about with our family in our RV with satellite TV. My wife and I don’t log many hours on the TV, but do enjoy the occasional ball game, parade or news cast.

We’ve only been through one mild storm with the new satellite so I can’t speak for all weather. Our King Dome satellite kept the signal coming in straight through the worst of it.

In all of these years I’ve heard a lot of folks talk about problems with Dish Network away from home. We went with DirecTV even though we do have Dish Network at home. Once again...no problems. Buy a new King Dome RV satellite and hook up with DirecTV for the best mobile satellite TV experience.

Growing up we always played games on road trips. I was king of the alphabet game. The only time the road games just weren't enough were on really long trips. They never seemed to end. I have satellite in my RV for the kids and it sure makes the long trips go by a little faster.

It's sure nice to get away from home every so often, but it's also great to be able to take some common household luxuries with you. I think for most kids now a days, a simple walk through the woods isn't exactly what they consider entertainment. It's nice to have TV as back-up, just to keep the peace.
